This article will explain how to use the built-in Photos app to enhance, edit, and automatically remove redeye on photos with your iPhone, iPad (Mini), and iPod Touch.
Whenever you use the flash to take a picture of someone, you run the risk of the person having red eyes. This not only looks freaky 🙂 it can also ruin some otherwise really good pictures. There is a way to fix this on your iPhone, iPad (Mini), and iPod Touch. In fact, you can auto-enhance any photo and do basic photo editing including cropping (resizing) with any picture on your iOS Device. Here is a brief tutorial on how to automatically remove redeye and edit photos on your iDevice:
1. Open up the Photos App on your device and find the picture that you want to edit. If you edit a photo that is in your Photo Stream when you save the photo it will save to your normal camera roll.
2. Once you have tapped on the photo you want to edit, tap on the “Edit” button in upper right corner of your screen. You will be presented with some tools at the bottom of your screen to edit the photo.
The first tool is the Rotate button. This allows you to rotate the photo.
The second button is the Auto-Enhance button. This tool will automatically make your photo look better (in most cases). The other cool thing about the Auto-Enhance feature is that if a photo has anyone with redeye, then the Auto-Enhance will automatically remove the red eye. You will know that it is correcting the red-eye because little circles will appear for a brief second around the eyes where the red is being removed (see the example picture).
The third tool is the Red-eye Removal tool. You can use this in addition to or separate from the red-eye correction that happens with the Auto-Enhance feature.
The last button allows you to Crop the photo – meaning that you can resize it. When you have activated the crop button and begin to resize the photo, you will see a Constrain button at the bottom of the screen. Tapping this gives you a bunch of options for various preset sizes that you can crop your photo to. As you resize it, you can tap on the Constrain –> Original to keep the photo the same dimensions as the original.
3. When you have completed editing your photo, simply tap Save and your photo will be saved with the edits you made including the red eye removal. The picture to the left shows how much better a photo can look with Auto-Enhance and Redeye Removal.
