Apple introduced a helpful feature in iOS 6 called “Do Not Disturb”. When enabled, your device silences all incoming notifications, phone calls, and vibrating alerts. For once, you can enjoy a break from all those Facebook notifications :). Here is how to get the most out of this feature:
- Locate the “Do Not Disturb” toggle in the settings app. If you switch it on, you will notice a little moon appears to the right side of the time at the top of your screen.
- Further customization of the “Do Not Disturb” feature can be found by tapping on the “Notifications” button in Settings just below the “Do Not Disturb” toggle. Tap on the “Do Not Disturb” option within “Notifications” to reveal 3 options – Scheduled, Allow Calls From and Repeated Calls.
- Scheduled – flip this toggle to turn on a daily schedule of the “Do Not Disturb” feature. This can be useful for setting a routine “notificationless” night when you are trying to sleep.
-
Allow Calls From – this feature allows you to select between a couple of different options to allow specific calls to always get through to you even with “Do Not Disturb” enabled. This is helpful in case you need to take important calls that you wouldn’t want to miss, like one from your spouse. You can also choose to allow calls from everyone which means notifications will still be silenced but phone calls won’t.
- Repeated Calls – when this toggle is on, it allows any calls from the same person twice within a tree minute time period to ring normally. This is an alternative method to allow important calls to get through.
Regardless of whether “Do Not Disturb” is turned off or on, your normal alarms in the Clock App will sound. So, you can be sure that you will still wake up at the appropriate time after a peaceful, notification free night!
