This article provides 4 case reviews (including the world’s thinnest case) for the iPhone 5s and 5.
Whenever I upgrade an iOS device, the hunt is on to find the best case. I know that some users prefer to go caseless and I respect that. One of the reasons I use a case is to protect the device from drops as well as to keep it in the best possible condition for resale.
After I upgraded to the iPhone 5s, I set out to find the best possible case that wouldn’t add a lot of bulk or weight. I did some initial research and then ordered 4 cases so that I could give each of them a hands-on-test. Here are the results.
1. Slim Armor (by Spigen)
After testing all 4 cases, this is the case that I decided to use.
Pros: It is fairly thin (not as thin as some of the other options) and provides protection for the iPhone. The case looks really nice and seeks to imitate the two tone design of the iPhone 5s itself. There are two parts to the case – there is a softer TPU interior and then an interchangeable back made out of thin metal. The two come together to provide a protective and stylish case without adding a lot of bulk and weight. The edges mimic the bezel of the iPhone itself. I really like the feel of this case.
Cons: The mute switch on the side of the phone is a little hard to reach. Also, I see a slight amount of picture wash out when I use the flash because it bounces off the case.
Overall, this is a great case and I would highly recommend it. It comes in 10 different colors including gunmetal, silver, red, blue, and champagne gold. 2. the veil (by caudabe)
Pros: This case claims it is the “world’s thinnest iPhone case”. It is super thin and weighs next to nothing. It is .35mm thin so you hardly notice it is even on your phone. Because it is so thin, all of the external switches and buttons are easily accessible. If you are looking for something that protects the back of your phone from scratches and dings, then this case is perfect. Color choices include Frost (white) and Wisp (black).
Cons: Not much protection if you drop your phone.

3. Dual PRO (by Incipio)
Pros: This is another great case that provides excellent protection for you iPhone 5 or 5s. There is a silicone interior and a rigid plextonium shell. This case will definitely protect your iPhone 5s or 5 in case you drop it. Additionally, the silicone slightly wraps over the front of the device so there is protection even if you lay your phone down face down. Overall, this case provides the best protection by far of the 4 cases I tested. All buttons and switches are easily accessible. There are 6 colors to choose from.
Cons: The main drawback for me on this phone is how the silicone wraps around the front of the iPhone. The overlap around the home button is more than I prefer especially when using the touch id feature on the iPhone 5s.

4. Ultra Fit (by spigen)
Pros: This case is thin and light. The case is made of polycarbonate but is coated in a non-slip material that feels really soft and great in your hand. All controls and switches are easily accessible. This case only adds 2mm of thickness to your iPhone. There is a 1mm ridge that sticks above the front screen in order to protect the screen when the phone is placed face-down on a surface. The case comes in clear and 3 other colors – smooth black, champagne gold, and smooth white.
Cons: The top and bottom of the phone are not covered by this case in order to allow easier access to the headphone jack, lightning port, and on/off switch. However, this leaves the top and bottom of the phone vulnerable to dings and scratches. The case will only provide minimal protection in case of a fall.
