As iOS devices (iPhone, iPad (Mini) and iPod Touch) continue to improve in screen quality, processor speed, and functionality, the longevity of the battery life becomes all the more important. The challenge in making the devices lighter and thinner yet maintaining or improving battery life is an engineering feat. The iPhone 5 and iPad (4th Gen) offer comparable battery life to their predecessors. The iPad Mini and iPod Touch also offer decent battery life. However, it often comes down to your device usage habits that will determine whether or not this much battery life will be sufficient. The app store includes some apps that help monitor your iOS battery usage.
One such app is System Status which gives you battery usage monitoring and estimated work time with current usage stats as well as other helpful system monitoring (Memory, Wifi Connections, Current IP Address, etc). The app costs $2.99 with a free “Lite” version that has limited features.
There are a few things that you can do to help extend your battery life on your iOS device. If you find your iPhone, iPad (Mini), or iPod Touch battery runs out fast on a continuous basis, consider using some of the suggestions I make in a PDF I wrote called, “10 Tips to Improve iOS Battery Life.” Some users have reported faster than normal battery draining after installing iOS 6. The last 2 steps of this PDF could help resolve these issues.
I’m giving the “10 Tips to Improve iOS Battery Life” PDF free to anyone who subscribes to this blog (Subscribe here). If your iOS device battery drains unusually fast even after you have tried these 10 tips, consider taking your device in to your local Apple Store to have it diagnosed. If it is still under warranty, you may be eligible for a device replacement at no extra cost to you.
