Stop Motion Miniatures Review for iPad (mini), iPhone, iPod Touch

Stop Motion Miniatures Review for iPad (mini), iPhone, iPod TouchThere are many stop motion apps out there. They all basically do the same thing. Take lots of photos at intervals and put them together in a time-lapse video. That’s the basic concept. Typically they each have some key features that make them stand out. Miniatures is exactly that: a stop motion/time-lapse app with some key functions that make it stand out. Here are a few functions that make this stop motion/time-lapse app really stand out.

* Tilt-shift – this is the ability to make the top and bottom of the screen blur a bit. It makes the video look like you are taking a video of miniature things.

IMG_8323* Shooting intervals – there are nine different intervals you can set to shoot with. You can shoot as low as 0 seconds per shot and up to 2 minutes per shot for really slow moving videos like a plant blooming. Typically I set it at every 2 seconds.

IMG_8324* Video Resolution – you can choose what size video you want to shoot in. Your options include 640×480 (low quality), 1280×720 (HD and the size I usually shoot in), 1920×1080 (HD) and 2 front camera modes.

IMG_8321There are a number of other features included, but these are the key ones that make it stand out from the others. You also have a preview window that shows you what the last picture was that was taken, it tells you how long till the next frame is shot and what your running total length the video will be. This is a major deal because sometimes you need a video to be a certain length and this allows you to know when to stop shooting.

Pros:
Very easy to use.
Video resolution can be very high.
The option of shooting intervals.
Tilt-shift is amazing when done right.

Cons:
Can’t think of any.
