A Sleek and surprisingly useable bluetooth keyboard for iPad mini

Owning an iPad mini has been far more impactful than I originally anticipated. Having owned an iPhone and a MacBook for many years, I didn’t quite understand the role that having a tablet would actually play. Since purchasing an iPad mini this last year, I find that I’m much more inclined to take the iPad over lugging my laptop around with me to different meetings. Since connecting with people on a regular basis over coffee is a big part of my job, mobility and ease of use is king. While great programs like Notability (see review) have allowed me to take notes using a stylus, there have been frequently more instances where a small bluetooth keyboard would’ve been a huge asset. I had refused the idea of getting a keyboard figuring that I might as well grab my laptop, but soon I opted to give it a shot – with two stipulations. First, it couldn’t be bulky or add much to the overall size and width of my iPad, and second, it needed to be budget friendly.

My first purchase was a $20 bluetooth keyboard that acted much like a case and covered the screen when traveling, I soon found that the small amount of real-estate that the iPad mini offers makes for a tight squeeze for a full size keyboard. This particular keyboard was cramped and was virtuously useless to me as I was constantly hitting wrong keys and having to go back to fix my mistakes. Not even Apple’s auto correct could make sense of the gibberish my oversized fingers hammered out. I quickly packaged up this cheap keyboard and shipped it back for a refund.

It was while browsing online at Amazon that I came across the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover Mini for iPad mini. The case is sleek and smooth and compliments my black iPad mini perfectly by taking advantage of the smart cover magnets that are more than strong enough to keep the keyboard attached. The keys were very clean and overall very well made… not the type of thin plastic the first keyboard was made out of. The other unique feature that Logitech ran with was by integrating the “A” key and the caps lock which the caps lock was accessible by first pressing the small “fn” key on the bottom left of the keyboard. This simple yet significant move free’d up enough space that my fingers can fit comfortably (though still cozy) and actually produce a document with no more mistakes than on my laptop.

This keyboard features an on/off switch, a bluetooth connect button, a stand for the iPad for while typing, and a charging port. With all the features I wanted and enough room for typing, this keyboard seemed to be the best fit – and all for under $60. With a 4 out of 5 stars review from over 140+ satisfied customers on Amazon, I decided to commit and have loved it.
