iOS 7: Keep your iPhone and iPad (Mini) contacts updated with Facebook Sync

iOS 7: Keep your iPhone and iPad (Mini) contacts updated with Facebook Sync

Sign in to Facebook in the Settings App on your iOS device to allow for system wide integration and contact syncing.

In iOS 6, Apple introduced deeper Facebook integration throughout all iOS devices. This continued with the updates in iOS 7. By default, this access is turned off. To activate it, simply go to Settings –> Facebook and login with your credentials. Once logged in, you will be able to use Siri to post updates to Facebook as well as upload or share photos directly from the Photos app. You also get the option of turning on Facebook Calendar which adds a calendar of all your upcoming Facebook events and another calendar with birthdays of all your friends.

Beyond the status updates and photo sharing capabilities, you can also keep all of your contacts in sync with the most current contact info of all your friends on Facebook. This will update phone numbers, email addresses, and even add the person’s Facebook Profile picture to their contact info on your iOS device. To initiate the sync follow these steps:

1. Open the Settings app and scroll down to Facebook. Tap on Facebook and make sure you are signed in.

iOS 7: Keep your iPhone and iPad (Mini) contacts updated with Facebook Sync

Tap on “Update All Contacts” to update your iPhone, iPad (Mini), iPod Touch with the most current contact information on Facebook.

2. Once you have signed in, scroll to the bottom of the options in the Facebook Settings and locate a button that says “Update All Contacts”. Tapping this will sync all of your contacts with the most current information available for your friends on Facebook.

Note: You can also do this same procedure for Twitter contacts. However, I would not generally recommend it since you will clutter your contact list with hundreds or potentially thousands of Twitter followers who you may not even know. Once the sync is performed, it cannot be undone.
