How to select, copy, cut, and paste on iPhone, iPad (Mini) and iPod Touch

 

There are some simple ways to select, copy, cut, and paste on all iOS devices. Learning these will help you get a lot more out of your device.

After you tap and hold to insert the cursor where you want it, this menu appears so you can Select or Select All.

1. Select: There are a couple of ways to select text on your device. You can touch and hold on a word which will bring up the magnifying glass so you can insert the curser in a precise location. When you release, a menu will appear asking if you want to Select or Select All and Paste. Another way to select text is to double tap a word. This selects that word specifically and allows you to grab the little blue dot on either end of the word to expand your selection.

To Copy or Cut a selection, simply double tap a word to select it and bring up the Cut, Copy, Paste menu

2. Copy: Once a word or phrase is selected, a little menu pops up asking if you want to Cut, Copy, or Paste. Simply tap the Copy button to copy your selection.

3. Cut: If you want to remove your selection to paste it somewhere else, simply tap the Cut button when it appears in the menu.

4. Paste: Anytime you want to Paste a selection that you have Cut or Copied, simply insert your cursor with a long tap revealing the magnifying glass and release in the specific location you want to Paste. This will bring up the menu that lets you Select, Select All, or Paste. Touch the Paste button on the menu and your Copied or Cut text will be inserted.
