Tip: Use Low Power Mode during travel

Like many people, I’ve been doing a lot of traveling this summer. A few days ago, I was reminiscing with family about the time before smartphones when we had to rely on paper maps, pay phones, and good-old-fashioned radio stations to keep us sane on trips. It made me feel old. Nowadays, of course, those paper maps have given way to GPS-enabled apps on our phones that provide a real-time incredibly accurate view of where we are and where we’re going. Pay phones and phone booths are decisively a thing of the past (seriously, when was the last time you Continue Reading →

How to use 3D Touch to move text insertion point

I’m always amazed to discover how many people are unaware of one of my favorite features in iOS – using 3D Touch to gain fine-grain control over the text insertion point while writing. With the advent of the iPhone 6s, Apple introduced 3D Touch as a feature shipping with its high end iPhones and has continued to include it up to the present day. This feature, which brings an additional layer of functionality to many controls across the system, can also be used to gain accurate control over the blinking cursor that signifies where typed text will be inserted. How to customize Control Center

In iOS 11, which was released in the fall of 2017, Apple gave users an unprecedented number of ways to customize their devices – allowing control over things that had been unchangeable in the past. One great example of this is Control Center – iOS’ one stop shop for quick access to your device’s settings that’s just a simple swipe up from the bottom of the screen away (or down from the top right of the screen, if you happen to be using an iPhone X). Having the ability to swipe up and quickly interact with one of these controls Continue Reading →

Airdrop allows you to easily send photos and videos, contacts, files, and pretty much anything else, between your devices running iOS and Mac OS X, and it’s one of my favorite and most used features. In this article, I’ll tell you why you should use Airdrop too and I’ll show you how to use it. Why use Airdrop? – First off, why would you use Airdrop when there are other options available? For example, it’s pretty easy to send photos, videos, and other types of files to other devices using iMessage or in an email. There are a few reasons I prefer Continue Reading →

3D Touch brings a whole new dimension of interaction to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Yes, you can use 3D Touch to interact with app icons on the home screen and inside apps that have been updated to support the feature, but did you know you can also use it in some really useful ways when dealing with text system-wide in iOS? Here are two quick tips for using 3D Touch on your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus for selecting text. 1. Use 3D Touch to turn your keyboard into a trackpad.
